Influx: September 16 - September 30, 2017

The Pepperell Mill Campus in Biddeford has a distinguished history which includes historical use as a textile mill and current use as commercial space for artists and businesses. Its ongoing revitalization is central to the development of the surrounding downtown community and has lead to an influx of new creative energy to the area. The collaborative of artists working to present this event seek to explore the reciprocal relationships between the mill, the river, and the city that developed around it. By utilizing part of the Riverwalk pathway, patrons will be able to explore artwork that is inspired by the past, present and future of the mill, the natural elements of the nearby river and ocean, as well as the activities of the people in the mill and surrounding urban areas.
Installations will begin in September, with an opening event on Friday, September 15th from 5:00-9:00pm during Biddeford’s RiverJam Fest. Installed works will be on display from September 16th - September 30th and accessible to the public, Monday-Saturday 12:00-4:00pm. A closing event will coincide with the Biddeford/Saco Artwalk on Friday September 29th from 5:00-9:00pm.
The event will feature work by Alex Mead, Jarid del Deo, Julie K. Gray, Marques Bostic, Michael Evans, Christy Matson, Lucky Bistoury and Ann Thompson, along with organizer Sarah Baldwin. common thread4 artists //// 3 cities /// common threads
Through the lens of 4 artists, the art collective, Autus takes a look at contemporary art currently being produced in mill cities across the NorthEastern US. Historically, these cities were all home to Textile producing mills. Built on the rivers of these cities, the textile mills helped shape the economic and physical landscape of each city. Today these mills are being transformed by artists and artisans seeking space to create work in. How will the influx of artists shape the future of these cities? Show runs Dec. 2 - Jan 21 Opening reception: Dec. 2nd 5p-8p Artists: Jocelyn Toffic: www.jtoffic.com Bret LaBelle: www.bretlabellephoto.tumblr.com Jill Hirsch: www.jillianhirsch.com Cheryl Lichwell: www.cheryllichwell.com |
